Setting Up Event Sync with the Orbee Platform

1. What is Event Sync?

The Orbee Event Sync feature is a crucial component for maximizing your digital advertising and analytics accuracy. Event Sync enables the Orbee Platform to track conversion events that occur through various third-party tools and systems.

By leveraging Event Sync, you ensure a complete and accurate picture of the customer journey, allowing you to use your first-party data for:

  • Accurate Reporting: See exactly how third-party conversions are performing.

  • Enhanced Targeting: Build more powerful and precise audiences based on a complete set of shopper actions.

  • Effective Optimization: Feed accurate conversion data back to your advertising platforms for smarter campaign optimization.

2. The Step-by-Step Setup Process

Setting up Event Sync is a collaborative, time-sensitive process between your team and Orbee Support. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth configuration:

Step 1: Initiate Contact with Orbee Support

  • Action: Send an email to support@orbee.com requesting the setup of Event Sync for your domain.

  • Purpose: This request triggers the Orbee team to begin the necessary backend configurations and prepare the required installation assets.

Step 2: Receive and Implement the Tracking Script

  • Action: Orbee Support will send you explicit instructions and the necessary code snippet for the tracking script installation.

  • Note: This script often needs to be placed within your website's code (typically in the <head> section) to ensure it can successfully listen for and report events.

Step 3: Maintain Open Communication

  • Action: Be prepared to quickly respond to communications from Orbee Support.

  • Purpose: Open communication is essential for immediate troubleshooting and ensuring that each subsequent step runs smoothly and on schedule.

Step 4: Orbee Generates DNS and SSL Values

  • Action: Orbee will perform a backend process to generate the necessary Domain Name System (DNS) values and an SSL certificate.

  • Important: These generated values are required to securely and reliably map a custom tracking domain (a subdomain like sync.yourdealer.com) to the Orbee Platform.

Step 5: Configure the CNAME Record (Critical & Time-Sensitive)

This is the most critical and time-sensitive step in the process:

  1. Action: Orbee will provide you with the specific CNAME record values.

  2. Your Task: You must log into your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Cloudflare, etc.) or contact your IT team to immediately update your domain’s DNS settings with the new CNAME record.

  3. Why it's Critical: The certificate generated in Step 4 is for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption, and it expires after 72 hours of creation.

  4. Consequence: If the CNAME record is not updated and verified within this 72-hour window, the certificate will expire, requiring Orbee to restart the generation process and potentially delaying your Event Sync setup.

 

Note: The setup is time-sensitive. Once we get confirmation to begin this setup, it has to be completed in 72 hours. The certificate that the system generates for this process expires after 72 hours of creating it.

3. Next Steps

Once the CNAME record has propagated and Orbee confirms the SSL certificate is active, Event Sync will be fully enabled. You can then begin leveraging this powerful data within the Orbee Platform.
