Filtering Internal Traffic on Google Analytics

This article goes over the steps to filter IP addresses on Google Analytics at the property level

Steps to Creating a Filter at the Property Level

Users who have the Editor or higher at the property level can create/edit filters at the property level.

 

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics
  2. Define your internal traffic
  3. Click the gear icon on the bottom left part of your screen
  4. Click Data streams
  5. Select your data stream
  6. Click Configure tag settings
  7. Click the Show more dropdown and then click Define internal traffic
  8. Click Create
  9. Enter a Rule name
    1. Leave the traffic_type value as internal
      1. If this value is changed, the updated value must be reused in step 16b
    2. Under IP addresses, click on the dropdown to select the desired match type
  10. Click Create in the top right corner to finish making the rule
  11. Repeat Step 3
  12. Click Data filters
  13. Click Create filter
  14. Choose filter type
  15. Choose Internal traffic to exclude IP addresses
  16. Name your data filter
    1. Leave Filter operation as Exclude
    2. Under Parameter value, leave as internal (or the value used in step 9a.)
  17. Select Active to apply your data filter
  18. Click Create in the top right corner
